The Rotary Club of North Whidbey Island is proud to host the 2nd Annual Walk 4 Water fundraiser in 2019. Come join us as we help raise awareness to the huge efforts the people of Uganda have to take to get fresh water. With the proceeds from last year we were able to build 2 wells... How about 2019?
Walk for Water is one of the fundraising options to help the people in the Gulu area of Uganda. Aid Africa was incorporated as a 401ce in the fall of 2006.  Their goal is to work with the poorest of the poor in this area. Havoc was created in this area of Uganda with wars instigated by Joseph Konys army and today many Sudanese have escaped violence and come to this area.  We have substantially improved peoples basic living conditions by Building Stoves, Planting trees and Finding Water…We dig, repair, and maintain 3000 water sources, providing 3 sources of clean water to each village. they have the GPS coordinates of the wells and some wells have been dedicated to the donors who provided funding for them.

About 5 years ago Peter and Irene Keller developed the Walk for Water idea to in some small way illustrated what it is like for women and children to walk miles to carry water from a source to their homes each day. In addition to walking a good portion of their day they also put their lives at risk.  Plus the water from ground water is not clean because of other uses it gets including animals being nearby.    Irene Keller shares that each year more people participate in their local Walk for Water in the La Crescenta CA area. The Kellers have reached out to many people in building Aid Africa and Walk for Water events have been held in other California cities, in Poulsbo WA and in the Spokane area.

Bob and  Carol Wall had the opportunity to be present when well was dedicated 2008. this particular well was paid for by  donations collected by Oak Harbor Lutheran Church and the local Ugandans were excited and joyful and enthusiastic about the new well in their community.  During a group meeting on elderly Ugandan man got up and said  “Thank you for bringing us water with no bugs”  That touched my heart and gave us motivation for continuing to help people in Uganda. We have both served on the Aid Africa board.
